MJ: so you're definitely having a funner high school experience then most kids, any plans for the break?
JN: hah, i know right! skiing and hopefully do some parties
MJ: oh yeaaa you ski, competitively right?
JN: yea, i have a race, some rec skiing too
MJ: what's your bestest race so far?
JN: the whistle run, its in canada. i'm not that great, but i do beat people
MJ: always nice. so you ski and skateboard.
JN: yup, loves it. started my skateboard club at school. what are you up to?
MJ: heating up some leftovers, just got back from an ecko party. you're a senior right? I'd so be your prom date.
JN: haha, yup, i'm applying to pratt
MJ: whaaa seriously, DO IT! for what?
JN: i want to be an art teacher
MJ: ur kidding! i was an art education major
JN: thats tight!
MJ: fuck yea! it was awesome
JN: yea, teaching high schoolers
MJ: wow - i stay away from those...no offense
JN: i want to teach more advanced stuff. here, finished it 5 mins. ago
MJ: that is so fabulous

JN: oh man, new ideas coming to mind right now, we should do an art trade sometime
MJ: we can trade for my hello kitty/bape painting, thats just laying around

MJ: oh i need to show you what one of my kindergartners did
JN: AWW THATS SO CUTE, haha, multi color heart, rabbit, and the bangs
MJ: isn't it? for a frida imaginary friend lesson
JN: i love little kids art. high schoolers will just be like "shits weak, i can't draw" but little kids are in love with it
MJ: thus the reason why i love them, up until 4th grade when the hormones kick in
JN: you'd be a dope art teacher

MJ: Singapore - interesting, so you are Singaporean??
KG: Yes mam, born and raised in this island.
MJ: Nice, so when did you first realize that art was your "thing"?
KG: For all I can remember, I've been drawing since I was young. My dad was an architect and always spent art sessions with me at home and we took trips to local exhibitions and events. So all I wanted to be/do was paint when I grow up. I took Fine Arts for 2 years and quit because it was too fucking boring and I felt that I shouldn't waste my dad's money further. I did 2 years of compulsory military in Singapore and came back to the world like a new born child. I got back to painting, experimenting with different mediums, creating the Killer Gerbil character later and I just cant fucking quit it.
MJ: Oooo curse words . You must be passionate about what you do. What are your perfect working conditions??
KG: I love the whole idea of spontaneity. Totally unprepared or without any sketches beforehand, it challenges me as an artist to create something from nothing. I love being outdoors and in the sun. It's been raining the whole month here, so its back to eBays and pornos for the time being.
MJ: I know what pornos are, but what do you mean by eBays? buying? selling? What's your most recent eBay activity?
KG: Definitely buying. Most of my pickups are tees and photography equipment.
MJ: Hmm so your're into photography too then. Any photos NOT of your graffiti work you'd be able to share?

MJ: I just went to the site and I haven't left for half an hour. Its kryptonite for productivity depending on your definition of productivity....for all intensive purposes, can I post some of my favorites?
KG: Sure love by all means. Hope it changes the world's point of view.
MJ: Well don't mind if i do....by the way what's a lomohead?
KG: Just a nick for people into lomography. Just like sneakerhead. :P
MJ: Just googled lomography...maybe I'm a lomohead too...and don't say sneakerhead...I hate that word. Anything else you'd like the world to know?
KG: I'm every mom's dream son-in-law.

MJ: So Cubby...and that is your real name??
CG: LOL, yes it is. I get that alot when I meet new people. Its pretty cool, I guess you can call it a convo starter.
MJ: Well it's starting this one. How'd you get the name then?
CG: I got my name from my grandfather...when I was born, he handed me my bottle and I grabbed it with my feet like a lil cub. So I became Cubby.
MJ: Cute. Recently you made a trip to Hong Kong for work. What was the best part? One thing only.
CG: Man o man, only one thing. HMMMM I would say the way the city lights up on Saturday nights. The buildings have a crazy light show.
MJ: ...and the worst thing? One thing.
CG: LOL...people just coming out of the blue to hit you and act like its your fault.
MJ: Sounds like NYC. How do u like working for Nike in Oregon? What's the biggest adjustment you've had to make? We're both new graduates with new locals.
CG: Yeah. I guess you can say that. I love working at Nike, to be 23, no kids, and be working at a dream job is unreal. I used to live in Oakland, but moved to get away from the negative side. The murder rate was high and the average age to make it out was 18 if that. I don’t do all this to be famous, but famous to my future seeds and family.It's been good and I would say the hardest adjustment was learning the system and what it takes to really make a shoe. There is so much stuff the outside world does not know...what it takes to make a shoe go from design to the shelves. Living in Oregon isn't that bad and I'm getting used to it, but life is not life if it does not push you to be better.
MJ: So what are you working on now? sketches?
CG: My shoe that's coming out for Spring 09, just getting samples back 'n making sure they are coming out right 'n sketches for Fall/Holiday 09.
MJ: Anything in particular thats inspired you?
CG: (says super secret information)
MJ: hmmm interesting, I dont even know what that means...what's your favorite food?
CG: Pizza.
MJ: You can't just say pizza, theres some shitty pizza out there.
CG: lol, mm sag 'n cheese or pep...sag, I don't eat pork. Mostly I was into this place in Berkley that got shut down for some reason.
MJ: mm why not?? Is this a religious thing? or you just adopted this...no bacon???
CG: Pork is not good for the body or soul, mainly adopted it, lil bit religion...turkey bacon is good.
MJ: Yea, turkey bacon. Speaking of food "issues," our mutual e-friend Steez can't eat meat off the bone, freaks him out.
CG: LOL
MJ: He also thinks you have a crush on me. Lets settle this issue now.
CG: Whoa...how'd that come about?
MJ: I say its because you don't want to tell him your Nike secrets, so you just talk about me.
CG: He knows the same you know.
MJ: Oh - so then u do have a crush on me.
CG: WHOA...I just got gutter balled right now with words. Does Cubby have a crush on Miss Mabel?, she asks me.
MJ: lol
CG: I can say this...Mabel is a very interesting person...one of a kind who can truly show who she is. Art is who she is. Speaks and shows it through her personality. A douche bag, but a cool one I must say. What man with a heartbeat...blood that flows through der veins 'n takes a breath of air could not find Mabel cool as hell or the perfect image to his blank canvas.
MJ: Awwwwww tear* That was super nice, thank you.
